Industry leaders to highlight importance of Diversity & Inclusion at AOG 2018

There is no doubt that diversity and inclusion in the workplace are now considered C-level issues, and key leaders in Australia’s oil and gas sector are amongst those who are pushing that message.

The importance of diversity and inclusion in the oil and gas workplace will be a major feature at  AOG 2018, with some of the industry’s leading spokespeople lending their presence to the key Diversity & Inclusion Breakfast networking event.

The Master of Ceremonies for the event will be Woodside’s Chief Operations Officer Mike Utsler, and he will be joined on stage by Shell Australia’s General Manager, Michael Schoch, Rishelle Hume, a Senior HR Aboriginal Employment Consultant with Chevron and Allison Selman, the Founder of Women in Subsea Engineering (WISE) and a Director of Atteris.

Woodside, Shell Australia and Chevron are all active and vocal proponents of the importance of diversity and inclusion in their workplaces.

Woodside states that: “Delivering superior shareholder returns depends on our ability to attract and retain a talented, engaged, diverse and high performing workforce.”

While Shell Australia says: “At Shell, diversity and inclusion is an important part of who we are and what we stand for and a necessity for sustainable growth.”

Chevron states that: “We’re a proud proponent of diversity in the workforce, and we support an inclusive workplace that values the diversity of ideas and talents.”

WISE was developed by the local subsea industry to improve diversity and inclusion parity. In November 2017, WISE announced an initiative to undertake a study to establish baseline data for women’s participation in the subsea oil and gas industry in Western Australia.

The importance of diversity and inclusion is also highlighted by the make-up of the AOG Diversity & Inclusion Planning Committee with representatives from leading companies and industry organisations such as AMMA; APA Group; Baker Hughes, a GE Company; Edith Cowan University; Platform Communications; Rio Tinto; Shell; Technip FMC; and Woodside Energy.

One of the best-attended activities at AOG 2017, the Diversity & Inclusion event, will be again this year a powerful gathering which will provide opportunity for the industry to connect, while supporting inclusive and diverse workplaces.

The 2018 AOG Diversity & Inclusion Breakfast will showcase stories and discussions focusing on addressing the issues of gender diversity, diversity in age, race, national or ethnic origin, religion, language, political beliefs, sexual orientation and physical ability in the oil and gas industry, to create a more diverse and inclusive oil and gas community for all.

The 2018 AOG Diversity & Inclusion Breakfast will be staged at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre (PCEC) from 7am to 9am on Thursday, March 15.
