David Christensen is the Director, Decommissioning (Environment) at the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA), Australia’s Offshore Energy Regulator. David has extensive experience in environmental management specialising in the regulation of the offshore energy industry.

Within NOPSEMA, David leads a team that coordinates the regulatory oversight of petroleum titleholders’ compliance with their decommissioning obligations. This includes coordinating NOPSEMA’s response to regulatory reforms, implementing NOPSEMA’s decommissioning compliance strategy, development of policy and guidance, overseeing assessment, approvals, and compliance monitoring of offshore petroleum activities undertaken in Commonwealth waters.

David holds a Bachelor of Science from Curtin University, Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management and Master degree in Environmental Science from Murdoch University, and a Master degree in Public Policy & Management from Monash University.
