Dr Islam is an AI expert with over 12 years of research experience in multiple application domains. After graduating from the University of Western Australia (UWA) with a PhD with Distinction in 2011, he worked at UWA and Curtin University in the past, and currently working as a Senior Lecturer, and a member of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at ECU. Dr Islam developed many AI-based innovative tools and techniques in collaboration with local and international academic collaborators and industry partners. He published over 80 articles and received many media attractions and awards including the ECU High Achieving Researcher Award 2021. He is a Senior Member of both the IEEE and Australian Computer Society, and has been chairing the IEEE WA Signal Processing Society Chapter since 2021. He will be serving as the General Chair for the DICTA 2024 conference to be held in Perth.
