Spotlight on UWA
Located in Perth, The University of Western Australia is a world-top 100 university in the World University rankings and is the only Western Australian university to belong to the Group of Eight – a coalition of the best research universities in Australia.
One of UWA’s founding faculties, The Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics has a rich heritage of over 100 years of achievement and an international reputation for excellent research. A hub for world leading oil and gas engineering expertise, their researchers are currently working to solve some of the key engineering challenges of today and tomorrow, including new frontiers in offshore gas extraction, pipelines and deep water mechanics.
The Faculty’s new ‘Master of Engineering in Oil and Gas’ provides students with the advanced knowledge and skills to gain employment in the global oil and gas industry. The course is designed in collaboration with UWA’s industry partners to match current energy trends and is unique in its focus on downstream oil and gas processing.
The Faculty also offers a ‘Master of Professional Engineering’, in which students can choose to specialise in in one of seven engineering disciplines (Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Mechanical, Mining and Software) and become a professionally accredited engineer who is highly sought after by industry.
This is an exciting time to join the Faculty as an engineering student, as it celebrates extraordinary achievement amongst its staff, including a Chevron Chair in Gas Process Engineering, a Shell EMI Chair in Offshore Engineering and a Fugro Chair in Geotechnics, whilst looking to the future to plan new multi-million dollar infrastructure. The Engineering Zone, an inspirational and flexible teaching and research space, will help to enrich the student experience and will create a world-class innovation and research hub for the resources sector.
