Quadrant closing in on Roc spud

Australian company Quandrant Energy is preparing to spud the follow up well to last year’s Phoenix South-1 discovery off Western Australia.

Joint venture partner Carnarvon Petroleum revealed Quadrant had taken delivery of the jack-up Noble Tom Prosser from Vermillion Energy who had been using the well for drilling at its Wandoo oilfield.

Carnarvon said Friday the rig was now mobilising to Block WA-437-P and was expected to spud the Roc-1 well around 17 November.

Roc-1 will target the same Lower Keraudren reservoir in which oil was discovered in the Phoenix South-1 well  last year in the adjoining Block WA-435-P.

Roc-1 is interpreted to contain a larger volume of recoverable oil than Phoenix South, at a shallower depth, with a best case estimate of 42 million barrels of oil.

The well is expected to take between 50 and 60 days to drill and, if successful, Quadrant plans to re-enter the well bore in the third quarter of 2016 for testing and coring.

Quadrant operates WA-437-P with a 40% stake and is partnered by Carnarvon, JX Nippon and Finder Exploration which each hold a 20% share in the block.
