East Africa Oil and Gas Conference

Woodside Energy Ltd CEO & Managing Director Peter Coleman is headlining a high quality list of keynote speakers for the inaugural East Africa Oil & Gas Conference Australia (EAOGA 2014) event – to be held at the Hyatt Regency in Perth, Western Australia, on August 28 & 29, 2014.

Fresh from news that Woodside has joined the “oil rush” into East Africa by reaching a farm-in agreement to partner fellow Australian E&P company Beach Energy in the onshore Lake Tanganyika South Block in Tanzania, Mr Coleman has been named as one of the headliners for EAOGA 2014.

He joins a distinguished list of oil and gas industry experts and Australian and East African dignitaries presenting a first-hand view on the world’s current oil and gas “hot spot” and the opportunities that are available for Australian businesses.

Other high profile keynote speakers and panellists confirmed to participate at EAOGA 2014 include Western Australian Ministers Bill Marmion and Michael Mischin, High Commisioners representing Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda and senior representatives from a number of East Africa focused Australian oil and gas companies.

Keynote topics on Day One, Thursday August 28, include: “Australia’s Growing Interest in East Africa Oil and Gas”, “Geopolitics of Energy in East Africa”, “Oil and Gas Outlook in East Africa: Exploration updates”, “Africa and Australia – the political and economic state of play” and “Is competition for investors between East Africa and Australia a reality? Is it likely to develop? What shape and form?”

Day Two will feature a Conference Lunch, with Mr Coleman making a keynote speech. Topics on the day will include “Energy Capital: Investment Insight to the Energy Industry”, “Workforce Development, Capability and Local Content”, and “Local Content: Government Policies, Regulation and Bidding Rounds”.

East Africa has been the site of a tremendous run of drilling activity and successes in recent years, with more hydrocarbons reportedly discovered in East Africa between 2012 and 2014 than any other region of the world. New studies have suggested East Africa is set to overtake the rest of Africa in infrastructure requirements, with a particular need to support a rapidly developing LNG industry that is set to rival that of Australia over the next few decades.

Australian oil and gas explorers have been significant early movers in the area, with their successes attracting the majors from around the globe to join the rush to East Africa. Most recently Australia’s Pancontinental Oil & Gas participated in the first offshore East African oil find in Kenya, creating great international excitement.
