Critical industry gathering to discuss Australia’s oil and gas future

With Australia recently highlighted as one of the few positive locations in the world for oil and gas expenditure, there will be plenty of interest when industry specialists from around the globe gather in Perth next February for a series of high level discussions.

Australia’s leading LNG position was identified in the recently released Douglas-Westwood Q3 2016 World Oilfield Equipment (OFE) Market Forecast as being a catalyst for expenditure growth up to 2020 and the country’s current and future LNG opportunities will be amongst the many topics of discussion during the three days of an industry-led series of forums at the Australasian Oil & Gas Exhibition & Conference (AOG) 2017 event in Perth.

With local LNG industry heavyweights such as Woodside, and Shell joining with specialist companies such as Deloitte, the Western Australian Government, National Energy Resources Australia (NERA) and world leading industry bodies, the content for the AOG 2017 forums will provide critical input on where the industry is headed in this region over the next few years.

Months of research and in-depth discussions with specialist oil and gas industry participants has helped shape a new look AOG which will see free to attend industry forums titled “Collaboration”, “Subsea” and “Knowledge” when AOG 2017 is staged at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre (PCEC) from February 22 to 24.

The Collaboration Forum, will feature a mix of presentations for operators, contractors and SME’s, with the sessions over the three days titled “Opportunity knocks. Are you ready?; Technology & Innovation; and Maximising Australia’s potential – learning from the best!

Chief Operations Officer for Woodside Michael Utsler, who is a speaker in the Collaboration Forum, says innovation and collaboration are crucial for the industry.
“In a ‘lower for longer’ oil price environment a culture of ingenuity and resilience is required. This forum provides an opportunity to tackle key issues and opportunities together, to share learnings and to seek ways to drive excellence through our combined endeavours,” he said.

Subsea UK, is partnering with the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) and Subsea Energy Australia (SEA) to put together the Subsea Forum program, which is focusing on how the Australian subsea industry adjusts to the challenges and opportunities in the current market.
Topics up for discussion over the three days of the Subsea Forum include: Provoking stimulation; Subsea repairs and interventions; Subsea inspection, Monitoring and life extension; Subsea system design optimisation; Collaboration and inspiration; Subsea processing; Decommissioning; and, Autonomous subsea operations.

AOG organiser Diversified Communications is expecting over 500 subsea professionals to attend this year’s event, the 36th staging of AOG, to catch up with old friends, make new contacts and set the tone for what promises to be a key highlight on the 2017 subsea calendar.
The subsea sector will also be strongly represented on the exhibition floor with the world class Subsea Zone which will feature the latest in subsea technology and thinking.

The Knowledge Forum has received input from a wide range of industry bodies including the Asset Management Council , the Australasian Corrosion Association, the Australian Institute of Non-Destructive Testing, the Institute of Instrumentation, Control and Automation, Maritime Industry Australia Limited, the Petroleum Exploration Association of Australia, the Royal Institution of Naval Architects, the Safety Institute of Australia, the Society of Petroleum Engineers and Engineers Australia WA Oil & Gas Group.

Topics to be discussed over the three days of the Knowledge Forum include: LNG as marine fuel – crew competencies; Reducing risk and improving safety performance through the application of innovative technology; Innovative solutions for a tough market; Tomorrow’s technology today; Fixed and floating offshore structures;; Exploration for oil and gas: and, New techniques and concepts.

All three forums will be staged on the Exhibition floor at AOG 2017, ensuring that there will be strong cross fertilisation between all attendees and exhibitors.

“AOG 2017 provides a remarkable opportunity for attendees to hear first-hand from those working at the coal face about where they believe the local oil and gas sector is heading in the short to medium term,” AOG Event Director, Bill Hare, said.
AOG 2017 will again feature a number of specialist “Zones” on the exhibition floor, covering key topics such as subsea, health, safety and environment, NDT and condition monitoring, instrumentation control and automation – and a new ‘maritime’ zone, ensuring a very interactive and industry-critical event.
